How do we inspire children to protect a wetland as vast and complex as Chilika?
Not through textbooks alone.
As you can see, our six-month environmental stewardship programme done in collaboration with @thefishingcatproject, is much more than books and classrooms. It gives students from schools around Chilika the opportunity to explore the lagoon and the natural world it supports, through questions, observation, games, field visits and hands-on learning.
One moment they are identifying aquatic plants and understanding how they survive in water. Next, they are tracing the Central Asian Flyway and discovering how migratory birds travel thousands of kilometres to reach Chilika each winter.
By connecting classroom lessons with the world around them, children begin to see Chilika not just as a lake, but as a living ecosystem they are part of.
What they learn to appreciate today, they will help protect tomorrow. That’s the vision behind Mo Chilika Mo Garba (My Chilika My Pride).
