MULTIPLE POACHING ATTEMPTS THWARTED – ONE POACHER NABBED IN THE LAST 24 HOURS

As March’s spring gives way to April’s heat, migratory larks begin their long journey back to their trans-Himalayan breeding grounds. But for poachers, this is their last chance to trap these birds before they leave. With desperation setting in, they are launching relentless poaching attacks at multiple locations—morning and evening. What We Stopped in Just the Last 24 Hours:
🚨 Yesterday Morning: 05 poachers were spotted setting up bird trapping nets in prime lark poaching grounds near Ishira and Khammeda villages (Rampurhat block, Birbhum district). Upon being approached, they fled, leaving behind 1.5 km of nets, which were confiscated and destroyed. 🚨 Yesterday Evening: In the fields near Ausgram and Uplai villages (Khargram block, Murshidabad district), our team intercepted another poaching attempt. 01 poacher from a group of four was successfully apprehended and later taken into custody by the Kandi Forest Department. More updates from the previous few days:

🚨 Last Wednesday: A joint operation with the Kandi Range Forest Department thwarted a team of 07 poachers. 02 were successfully arrested, 0.8 km of nets were seiz ed, and 09 live Short-toed Larks were rescued and released.

🚨 More Nets Removed: Poaching isn’t limited to songbirds. On the same day, our team removed 2.5 km of nets set up to trap migratory waterbirds at Beel Belun wetland in Bharatpur block, Murshidabad.
