Holi is a festival of colours, joy, and togetherness. But the chemical colours and traditional hunting practices in some areas can cause serious harm to wildlife and birds. These disturbances can injure animals, destroy nests, and disrupt fragile forest ecosystems.
With this in mind, HEAL organised a Pre-Holi Anti-Hunting Awareness Campaign in forest fringe villages of Cooch Behar, West Bengal in collaboration with the Cooch Behar Forest Division.
On Ground to Stop Festival Killings
Through miking, community interaction, and leaflet distribution, we reached out to local communities to raise awareness about the importance of protecting wildlife during the festive season and preventing illegal hunting.

We also reminded citizens that hunting wildlife is a non-bailable offence under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Together with the Forest Department and local communities, we aim to prevent wildlife hunting and ensure a safe festival for all species.

The campaign was carried out by HEAL team members Rocky Sutradhar, Jagadish Das, Subha Dey, with field volunteers Hritaban Ghosh, Prem Das, Anirban Das and Subhankar Sen.
