This Global Tiger Day, we celebrated with the next generation of conservationists.
Around 100 students from Samsernagar High School in the Sundarbans came together on 22 July 2026 for drawing, quiz and extempore competitions that explored the importance of the Royal Bengal Tiger, mangrove forests and the incredible biodiversity they support.
Organised in collaboration with the West Bengal Forest Department, the programme encouraged students to think, create and speak about why protecting tigers means protecting an entire ecosystem and ultimately, our own future.
It was heartening to see students express their understanding of conservation through colourful drawings on Sundarbans, Royal Bengal Tiger and the mangroves.They also tested their knowledge through a quiz and shared thoughtful perspectives during the extempore competition on ‘If the tiger survives, the forest survives; if the forest survives, humanity survives.’
The winners were presented with certificates and prizes in recognition of their outstanding performances, with the first-place winners from each category qualifying for the final-level Global Tiger Day competition.
By nurturing awareness among young people today, we are investing in a future where the Sundarbans, the tiger and all interdependent species continue to thrive.
