Team HEAL Rescues Asian Palm Civets in Cooch Behar

16 April 2026

A pair of Asian Palm Civets had entered a home in Shyamaprasad Colony, Cooch Behar recently probably looking for shelter and food. The residents promptly reached out to team HEAL, and what followed was a careful and patient rescue operation.

Hiding under a bed, the civets made access difficult, but our team ensured minimal stress to them while safely securing both animals. They were later released together in a suitable habitat away from the locality.

About Asian Palm Civets

Asian Palm Civets are extremely shy animals

Asian Palm Civets are shy, nocturnal mammals that play an important role in maintaining ecological balance—especially through seed dispersal. While encounters like these can be startling, they are often a result of shrinking habitats and increasing human-wildlife overlap.

We’re happy that the family called us rather than taking the matter into their own hands.

If you ever encounter wildlife in distress or inside your home, remember, coexistence begins with awareness and the right response.
